Day 11:
Meant for Evil, But God Made It Good
Verse: Genesis 50:20 - "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives."
Joseph’s life is an incredible testimony of God’s ability to turn what was meant for harm into something powerful and redemptive. At first glance, Joseph’s story seems to be filled with one misfortune after another. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and then falsely accused and imprisoned—Joseph had every reason to lose hope, become bitter, or question God's plan.
Have you ever felt that way?
Yet, through it all, Joseph held onto his faith and integrity, even when he couldn’t see the bigger picture.
Imagine being Joseph, sitting in a foreign prison, far from home, with no clear sense of the future. How easy it would have been to believe that God had forgotten about him. But Joseph trusted that even though he didn’t understand the "why" behind his suffering, he was still in God’s hands. We, too, must adopt this perspective.
Joseph didn’t know at the time that being sold into slavery was part of a divine setup that would lead him to save his family and an entire nation from famine. He couldn’t have known that his unjust imprisonment would lead to a pivotal meeting with Pharaoh’s butler, a connection that would later result in his rise to the second-highest position in Egypt.
God used what others meant for evil—whether it was his brothers’ betrayal or the lies of Potiphar’s wife—for good. Each trial Joseph faced was a stepping stone in God’s larger plan to fulfill the dream He had given Joseph as a young boy. God was preparing Joseph to lead and save many lives.
The beauty of Joseph’s story is that it reveals God's heart: He is a master at turning situations meant for our harm into something good and purposeful. Just as He did with Joseph, God takes our hardships, disappointments, and moments of betrayal and uses them to mold us, position us, and eventually lead us into His calling for our lives.
We may not always understand why things happen the way they do, and like Joseph, we may not immediately see God's entire plan. But we can trust that, in His timing, He will bring us to a place of understanding and redemption, using even the darkest moments for our good and His glory. Remember, it's always darkest before the dawn.
Reflection:
· Have you experienced situations that seemed harmful or unfair but later saw how God used them for good? How can you trust God during current challenges, knowing He is working behind the scenes?
· What areas of your life are you struggling to see God’s hand at work? How can you continue to trust Him, even in silence or uncertainty?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that you can use what others may intend for evil for good. Help me to trust You in all circumstances, even when I cannot see the whole picture. I know that You are always working behind the scenes, weaving my story into something that will bring glory to You and good to others. Strengthen my faith as I walk through trials, and help me hold onto the hope that You are using every situation to fulfill Your purpose in my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
