DEVOTIONAL DAY 15: LIGHT BREAKS THROUGH THE CLOUDS

Updated: Oct 19

Day 15:

Light Breaks Through the Clouds

Verse: “When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.” - Exodus 24:15-16

Imagine being Moses at this moment. He had climbed Mount Sinai, leaving the Israelites at the base, and for six days, he was enveloped in a thick cloud, waiting for the voice of God. To those below, it might have appeared as if Moses was lost or had abandoned them. But he knew he was in the very presence of God, even if it felt like a silent, opaque waiting room.

Like Moses, we often wait for God to move, speak, or reveal the next step. Waiting is hard, especially when surrounded by "clouds" - uncertainties, fears, and the unknown.

We must be mindful of who we invite to wait with us. Their clouds of doubt and fear can often infiltrate and dilute our faith. We should seek godly prayer partners who are warriors for God so that when our faith weakens, they can provide momentary strength.

From Moses' experience, we can glean these profound truths:

  1. The Sacred Waiting: Waiting on God is never wasted time. In the stillness, our hearts are molded, our patience refined, and our dependence on God deepened.

  2. The Clouds of Presence: Though the cloud seemed like a barrier, it signified God’s presence. In our waiting seasons, God is closer than we often realize, even if His presence feels obscured.

  3. The Divine Timing: Moses waited six days, but on the seventh, God spoke. God’s timing is impeccable, and though He might seem late to us, He’s never delayed.

Looking back at the Israelites’ and maybe your journey, a pattern emerges trust, doubt, deliverance, and renewed faith. The time spent in the clouds or the waiting room, though trying, is instrumental in shaping our journey.

Reflection:

  • In what areas of your life are you currently waiting on God? How can you lean into His presence during these times?

  • How have past seasons of waiting shaped your relationship with God?

Prayer:

Lord, like Moses on Mount Sinai, I often find myself waiting in the clouds of uncertainty. Yet, I choose to trust that these clouds signify Your nearness. Teach me the sacredness of waiting, and remind me of Your perfect timing. As I stand in anticipation, mold my heart, refine my patience, and deepen my trust in You. When doubt threatens to creep in, let the memory of Your past faithfulness be the anchor that holds me steady. Amen.
