DEVOTIONAL DAY 7: THE EVERLASTING PRESENCE AND AWE OF GOD

Updated: Oct 19

Day 7:

The Everlasting Presence and Awe of God

Verses: Genesis 28:15 - "Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Genesis 28:17 - "And he was afraid and said, 'How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.'" (NKJV)

Like many of us, Jacob was on a journey fraught with uncertainties. Jacob needed divine reassurance to leave home, face unknown lands, and carry the weight of past mistakes. And God, in His infinite mercy, descended in a dream, promising protection and guidance and an eventual return to the Promised Land.

So many of us need this reassurance, especially when we have been hurt or have hurt others and need assurance, love, and God’s grace. These assuring words from God are humbling and comforting, prompting us to desire to be better people.

Genesis 28:15 isn't merely about God's physical protection but His eternal commitment. Even when Jacob's journey took him away from familiar places, God's presence was an unbroken constant. And this promise wasn't just for the patriarchs; it extends to all of us. God's commitment is not fleeting; it stands firm until every promise He has made is fulfilled in our lives.

In realizing this profound truth, Jacob's response was one of awe, and so should ours. The ground he was on, previously just a resting spot, became "the house of God" and "the gate of heaven." This change in perception is powerful. When we truly recognize God's presence in our lives, our ordinary surroundings can transform into places of divine encounter.

Let's adopt Jacob's perspective today. Amidst our daily routines, let's seek out those awe-inspiring moments when the magnificence of God's presence eclipses the mundane. As we walk our paths, may we always find solace in the promise that God is with us, guiding, protecting, and fulfilling every word He has spoken.

Reflection: Considering Jacob's perspective transformation at his encounter with God, where might you be overlooking God's profound presence in your daily life? How can you cultivate a deeper awareness and reverence for the "house of God" moments in your ordinary surroundings?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your unending presence in my life. Help me recognize and honor the sacred moments I encounter daily. Fill my heart with awe and reverence for You, and let me rest in the confidence of Your eternal promises. Just as You were with Jacob, be with me, and may my journey always reflect Your glory. Amen.
